Acudetox (NADA Ear Acupuncture)
Acudetox is a nourishing 5 point ear acupuncture technique designed to not just reduce your stress but to also increase your tolerance for future stress. It is a balancing treatment that was originally developed at the Lincoln Detox Center in the Bronx to help patients detoxing from heroin. Clients have reported benefits in treating addictions of all types. It is also used in behavioral & mental health settings, in disaster relief sites, and to ease emotional trauma.
According to the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association the benefits include…
- Reduced cravings for alcohol and drugs, including nicotine
- Minimized withdrawal symptoms
- Increased calmness, better sleep, and less agitation
- Relief from stress and emotional trauma
- An easier connection with counseling
- A discovery of inner quiet and strength
Acudetox sessions are done in a group setting with up to 12 people at a time. The insertion of the pins takes a few minutes and then they are left to rest for 20-40 minutes. During that time you may sit quietly and rest, you may choose to bring a book, or if your neighbor is amenable, you’re welcome to chat quietly.
It is a subtle treatment and the effects build up over time. The frequency with which clients choose to come in varies. If you are in active recovery, you may choose to come see us for daily treatments. If you are in a maintenance mode you may chose to come by once a week or whenever the urge strikes you. The maximum that we allow at this time, is 2 treatments per day.
